Old City
Small family-style restaurant with plenty of vegetarian dishes
A cosy restaurant on Abdurakhmon Jomiy Street serving Uzbek and European food, with meat-free versions of most national dishes, a fireplace room and an English menu.
Old City is a small, homely restaurant on Abdurakhmon Jomiy Street in central Samarkand, with a fireplace in one of its rooms and quiet music in the background. Among travellers it is best known for vegetarian food: many of the national dishes come in a meat-free version, clearly marked on the menu, and there is an English menu too.
Bestsellers include plov, lagman (vegetarian lagman among them), manti — the pumpkin version is a favourite — borscht and carrot salads, alongside a few European dishes. Gur-e-Amir is about a kilometre away.
