Buyuk Samarkand

Buyuk Samarkand lies about 7 km east of the city centre, in the Eternal City section of the Silk Road Samarkand resort beside the Rowing Canal. The 11-hectare Eternal City is built in the spirit of an ancient town — narrow lanes, craft workshops, domed pavilions and, in the warmer months, street performances — to a design by contemporary Uzbek artist Bobur Ismoilov.
The restaurant is the Eternal City's largest and one of its showpieces, seating up to 400. Ismoilov also designed the interior, blending modern motifs with traditional Uzbek decorative art, while eight-metre columns give the hall its sense of scale. The menu centres on Uzbek cooking and traditional Eastern recipes made mostly from local produce, and the hall can be booked for banquets in national style.
The resort is about 20 minutes by car from the historic centre and 15 minutes from the airport; there is parking, and a shuttle runs for guests.
