Xan Atlas serves Eastern and European food on Mahmud Koshgari Street, southwest of the centre and about 1.2 km from Gur-e-Amir. Its name and interior take their cue from khan-atlas, Uzbekistan's famous ikat silk: a spacious main hall and cosy family areas are decorated with hand-embroidered suzani, chased metalwork, studio ceramics, hand painting based on atlas patterns and warm exposed brick.
The kitchen aims to respect tradition while cooking in a modern way, so plov, lagman and kazy horse sausage share the menu with marbled-beef steaks, pasta and grilled salmon. Diners especially rate the lamb kebabs, aubergine salad and starters, and there are vegetarian dishes. A banquet hall caters for family celebrations, and there is outdoor seating in warm weather.
