Maroqand Osh
Plov centre serving plov at lunchtime and again in the evening
A plov centre on Lutfiy Street that serves plov twice a day, at lunch and in the evening, topped with qazi and a quail egg. Private booths suit groups.
Maroqand Osh is in the western part of the city on Lutfiy Street, about 1.8 km west of the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum. Many Samarkand plov centres open only at lunchtime, but here plov is cooked twice a day: the lunchtime batch goes out from 11:15, and after a break from 15:00 to 17:15 the evening batch is served.
Each plate comes with a slice of qazi (horse-meat sausage) and a quail egg, and the table fills with salads, pickles and ghuraob, a sour juice of unripe grapes. Beyond plov the menu has mastava soup, meat dishes and ice cream. The dining room is smartly decorated and cool inside; groups can take a private booth, and in summer there is a terrace. Plov is also delivered, and during Ramadan it is cooked for the pre-dawn suhoor and the evening iftar too.
