Fedya Shashlik No. 1 is the Sadriddin Ayni Street outlet of a small Samarkand chain (look for School No. 31), about 1.8 km south-east of the Registan. Diners describe a large restaurant with fast service, a second-floor dining room and an open-air veranda in summer, and note that most of the guests are locals.
Shashlik is the point: the 'Napoleon' selection brings several kinds, including rolled kebab, 'bombochka' and flank, alongside chunks of lamb. People pair them with crispy aubergine salad, Caesar or a simple vegetable salad, flatbread and quince-and-basil kompot, and local wine is available. Delivery across the city is ordered on the short number 1067.
