Report
From sunset to midnight: golden light at Shah-i-Zinda, dusk over Bibi-Khanym, the Registan light show and a floodlit Gur-e-Amir.
The whole route is on foot, 3–4 km in all. Timing is everything: reach Shah-i-Zinda at least an hour and a half before closing. Sunset shifts through the year, so slide the stops accordingly. In the warm season (roughly late February to late November) the Registan is open from 7:00 to midnight and the evening show runs.
In winter the monuments close early and the show is paused — start at 15:00 instead and admire the floodlit Registan and Gur-e-Amir from outside. The lit streets of the centre are lively and safe at night, but keep an eye on your documents and phone.
If you prefer a newer setting, have dinner in the Eternal City instead: on warm evenings the nearby musical fountain plays from around 20:00. It's 15–20 minutes from the centre by taxi. Order your ride back through an app — cars are easy to find even late at night.
Low evening sun turns the tiles to gold — the best time for photos. The ensemble usually closes at 19:00, earlier in winter.

The sound-and-light show projected onto the madrasa facades lasts about 20–25 minutes. Confirm the time locally; there's no show in winter.

A 10–15-minute walk. You can't go inside at night, but the floodlit ribbed dome is magical after dark.
