A Friday mosque on T. Zehniy Street. The mosque at this address was formerly called Qoshbaqqoli: built by volunteers in 1996, it has been an official mosque since 1998.

History

Official sources list the mosque at this address (25 T. Zehniy St) as Qoshbaqqoli (also spelled Qoshboqqolli) until 2022; since 2024 the tarawih lists have called it Muhammad Amin Ota.

It was built through hashar, voluntary community labour, in 1996 and registered as an official mosque in 1998. Between 2010 and 2015 two domed prayer halls were added on either side of the main hall, with an iwan and an ablution block on the north side of the courtyard.

The old name comes from Qoshbaqqoli mahalla. Local elders say the first settlers here were two grocers, or baqqols, hence Qoshbaqqol, 'the pair of grocers'.

Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
