Qoraboy Oqsoqol Mosque

A Friday mosque in the old city on Abu Lays Samarqandiy Street. The Qoraboy Oqsoqol complex, dating from the 19th–20th centuries, is a listed architectural monument.

Architecture

The mosque stands near Islam Karimov Street, behind School No. 21: a rectangular domed building with an iwan across its front. Its exact construction date is unknown, and the national register dates the complex to the 19th–20th centuries. It has been repaired and improved several times since independence.

Official list: Listed by the Samarkand branch of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan (sammuslim.uz).

Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
