History

Namazgah Mosque went up in the 17th century outside what were then the city limits. It was paid for by Nadir Divan-Begi, a noted benefactor of the Uzbek Arlat clan who endowed several other buildings in Samarkand.

Listed as the Namozgoh complex in Uzbekistan's National Register of immovable cultural heritage, the mosque has been handed to the Vaqf charitable foundation for its use free of charge.

Today

Namazgah is one of the city's larger congregational mosques. In July 2022 the Mufti of Uzbekistan preached to the big Friday congregation here, and in 2024 the regional governor chose this mosque to greet worshippers on Eid al-Adha.
