In brief
Kok means 'blue' or 'green'. Built in the 19th century on the site of an older mosque, it has an iwan on nine carved wooden columns along two sides and a small service building with a low platform for the muezzin. A little pool survives in the spacious courtyard. The Kok Mosque complex is on the national register of 19th–20th-century monuments.
Official list: Listed by the Samarkand branch of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan (sammuslim.uz).
Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
