Islomobod Mosque

Friday mosque in Jomboy, the district centre, built by communal effort in 1990–1995; a large dome was raised over its prayer hall in 2019.

54 Islomobod St, Guliston mahalla, Jomboy (town)

History

The mosque was built in 1990–1995 through hashar, communal voluntary work, in Jomboy, the district centre.

In 2019 work began to give it a more traditional look: a large dome was raised over the prayer hall, while two smaller domes, an entrance iwan and cladding of patterned brickwork and glazed tiles were under way. In January 2021 the chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan inspected the construction and the planned repairs.

Official list: Listed by the Samarkand branch of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan (sammuslim.uz).

Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
