Chobin Mosque

A Friday mosque in central Urgut (31 A. Shukuriy St). In 2018 the Muslim board called it the town’s central mosque, with over 2,000 people at Friday prayers.

31 A. Shukuriy St, Urgut

History

A religious bookshop opened at the mosque in 2018. As the building grew too small for Friday and Eid crowds, a large new home for the Chobin congregation was built in Mergancha mahalla and opened in 2021 as the Urgut Central Mosque (later listed as Mulla Shodi Bobo). Chobin itself remains in use as the Friday mosque of the town centre.

Official list: Listed by the Samarkand branch of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan (sammuslim.uz).

Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
