Friday mosque in Payshanba, the centre of Kattakurgan District. Its building is on the national heritage register as a 19th–20th-century monument.

History

Uzbekistan’s national register of immovable cultural heritage, approved by Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 846 of 4 October 2019, lists the Qalandarkhona Mosque in Dostlik mahalla as a 19th–20th-century architectural monument. The encyclopedic entry on Payshanba also names it as the town’s Friday mosque.

Standing in the district centre, the mosque often hosts meetings of the district’s imams. A modern ablution building was completed on its grounds in 2020.

Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
