Friday mosque in hilly Andoqsoy mahalla, Kattakurgan District, named after Abul Hasan Andoqiy, a 12th-century Sufi and one of Yusuf Hamadani’s successors.

The name

The mosque honours Khoja Abul Hasan Andoqiy (Hasan Andaqi), a 12th-century Sufi. An article on the website of the Muslim Board’s Samarkand branch says he studied in Bukhara and became the second khalifa of Yusuf Hamadani, master of the Khwajagan order; Fakhr al-Din Ali Safi also writes about him in “Rashahat”. Local tradition holds that he lived in Andoqsoy.
