History

The mosque occupies a historic building in the village of Tim known as Oq Masjid, the White Mosque. Uzbekistan’s national heritage register lists it as a 17th-century architectural monument under the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve, while the regional Muslim Board dates it to the 16th century. The five daily prayers and Friday prayers are held here.

In 2019 the building needed repair and had grown too small for its congregation. Heritage officials surveyed it in 2010 and 2016, documented the need for restoration and included it in the 2017–2027 repair programme; in June 2019 an agreement was reached to restore the mosque to its original appearance and add a modern ablution block.

On a hill in the village stands the Arab-Ata Mausoleum, dated 367 AH (977–978).

Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
