According to the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, the mosque used to be called Orlot. The national register of immovable cultural heritage lists it as the Orlat Mosque, an architectural monument of the 19th–20th centuries.
After renovation, the mosque's new building opened on the eve of Ramadan 2021, and the neighbouring cemetery was landscaped. Mufti Usmonkhon Alimov (1950–2021), head of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, who was born and raised in Orlot, is buried, as he wished, in the cemetery next to the mosque, beside his father.
Official list: Listed by the Samarkand branch of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan (sammuslim.uz).
Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
