History

The mosque is named after Domla Kamoliddin Okhund, a master of the Naqshbandi Sufi order. Born in Shova in 1868, he studied first at the mosque of neighbouring Pangat and then at a madrasa in Bukhara, graduating in 1904; locals knew him simply as Domla Kamol. His grave is here too.

A small khanaqa and cells were built on the site in the 19th century. In 2002 villagers put up a Friday mosque for 70 people through hashar, and it has been officially active ever since; the same year the scholar’s house in Shova became a museum. Improvement of the mosque and mausoleum began in February 2020, and within the year a new mosque building and an ablution block went up.

Visiting a mosque: cover shoulders and knees (women should wear a headscarf) and take your shoes off at the door; avoid prayer times and ask before taking photos.
